Soheili's Blog: Oscars Best & Worst

after every awards show- i send my mom an email of my "best & worst" dresses according to moi :)

i thought it might be funny to share with the rest of my family, so i've copied & pasted this year's "Oscar's Best & Worst" email to Becky below;

Drumroll please...

You can debate these (because there were quite a few where I disagree with everyone!), but all-in-all I wasn't dazzled by this years Oscar dresses.... people were playing it safe!

My very favorite- and I know it's not for everyone, Best Dressed goes to...

Nicole Richie! She looks so elegant with a nod to the 60's, and I love the smoky grey color on her. & in the pictures with her soon-to-be-hubby, they look so happy!

I think I have a tendency to like Kate Winslet no matter what, because I imagine she has the same problems finding dresses that i do, specifically in the BUST area :) I love this dress on her; she looks like a Hollywood movie star from any decade, truly timeless and iconic. Oh & not to mention she's rocking a $2.5M necklace- that's some serious bling!

As usual, I don't want to love Demi, but the fit is too impeccable to deny. And the fleshy, peach color- perfect with her skin tone/hair. I saw a side view that was even more flattering, if that's possible.

Zoe Saldano: love it because it's interesting and bold, yet so gorgeous. I think it's one you either love or hate, but she looks like a STAR!

I don't even know this lady, Vera something :) BUT I thought her dress fit perfectly and looked to die for. The average person would have been swallowed in all the ruffles, but that bit along the curve without ruffles, just really makes it work for me. And the color... the color was beautiful. I think I would even like it in a cocktail version; I bet it inspires alot of dresses this season.

Cameron: I think it was a safe choice for her, and I so missed her usual unique/funky, fashion-forward dresses, BUT she undeniably looks like a modern day Veronica Lake. Totally stunning. And not an easy feat for someone who has a kind of boyish figure.

She's just being Miley! I was shocked by how pretty she looked. I probably would have taken the bust up one more inch and preferred it in a brighter color, BUT I think she looked beautiful either way. And I loved her hair! Kind of rocker girl glam :) one note** - She needs Papa in her life to teach her some lessons on posture. Every picture was super slouchy. I think girls that age must think it makes you look thin/modelish to hunch over - but it looks bad in pictures!

I'm including Penelope for you :) It's not my total favorite, but she's so gorgeous and sophisticated, it's hard to find wrong in just about anything she wears.

Mariska Hartigay: even though the dress is a bit bridesmaidy - she looks so friggin pretty I had to include her. and she's 46 damnit!

WORST:

I know everyone loved it - and I love Sandra as much as the next girl, but I don't get what the fuss is all about. It's just not my favorite for some reason... so I'm going to put it in the "meh" category; in some pictures I think it belongs in the worst, in others, I think its ok.

I will admit I do like it better close up where you can see all the details (2nd pic)

I don't want to do it... everyone will hate this choice (and I LOVE SJP), but I'm not loving it from the head on angle!! It looks like a sheet masking what we all know to be a fabulous figure. Now I do like the side view much better, gives her a little curve- and I think her hair was spot on (she usually botches the hair part)... and I know, I know its Chanel Couture, everyone loves it- but I just don't like it from the front at all (kind of a big deal).

I'll give it to her for rocking it though - she owns whatever she has on! :)

So over this twilight chick - she is dressing too old and looks blah! Everyone loved this dress, and I actually do think it's pretty, just not on her.

My friend thought she was stunning and obviously she looks gorgeous, but it's too overdone for me. :) and the side poof/drama, kinda unnecessary on someone who's overtly sexy and curvy. J-lo's been off her game lately!

Charlize: I'd LOVE to meet the stylist that thought this wouldnt land her on the worst dressed lists. She's arguably the most beautiful girl there, but there are some unfortunately placed purple cinnamon buns on her BEEPS. If you take those away, maybe throw some beading on the bodice, the color probably would have been really beautiful on her (and not quite so distracting).

I love Diane Kruger, and I wanted to like this dress because it's so unique and couture - but then I saw this 2nd picture of her . It manages to make a tiny waif of a girl look like she has an A$@ that won't quit. That's enough to throw it into "Worst" territory.

Rachel McAdams, ICK. the color is pretty & yes, she's totally cute and loveable. But this dress makes her look boobless and potentially pregnant. Not for me.
