Road Trip!! Part 1: Hit the road Jack

8.11.2008

Soooo much to catch up on! Sorry, we're going to get better about posting more regularly (I'm aiming for once per week).

First things first- thank you so much to Brad & Lori for an amazing last weekend in Dallas. Your wedding was beautiful and we enjoyed so much being part of all the celebration. Here are a few of our favorite pics from the rehearsal & the big day (you can thank your favorite camera man, Sie!):

After all the festivities, on Sunday night both of us were exhausted and not wanting to pack at ALL! We finally got started around 10:00 pm, packing up the enormous amount of junk we accumulated while staying with Mary & Moh (Sie's parents).

With plans to leave at 5:00 am, true to form, we packed until 1:00 am and finally went to bed with A LOT left to do- neither of us could believe HOW MUCH STUFF we had to cram into our camry, which due to its Hybrid battery has a ridiculously small TRUNK!

We woke up around 5:30 on Monday and got back to packing. At about 6:00 am, Sie was saying: "We're never going to get all of this in the Camry. We're just going to have to leave some of it." :)

I looked at Sie's mom (I'm not EXACTLY a morning person myself!), but managed to say... "Sie, lets try our best, and see what happens."

An hour and half of Sie carefully cramming all of our clothes, shoes, dog junk, laptops, towels, toiletries, etc into every nook and cranny of the car (did i mention I am packing challenged- it was ALL SIE, i acted as a "manager" only!), we were ready to hit the road:

We hugged Mary, and shared some tears, it was a very sad moment leaving everything we had in Dallas. She took pics of our overstuffed car, which left the dogs with 1/2 the backseat and me with no leg room due to all of the sandwiches & water bottles we'd packed. (nerds!)

Here's a pic of the dogs crammed into HALF of the backseat (sleeping soundly, in all honestly they slept the ENTIRE 1300+ miles). That said, we DID drug Buddy the first day because he gets so nervous in the car!

About 45 minutes into our drive, it started POURING, and I mean pouring. Thank God Sie was driving or I would have had a full blown panic attack. Those of you who know me well know that I do NOT do = driving + rain. But Sie drove through it all, & even made me sleep for an hour or so because I was so nervous!

In short, we've heard Arkansas was a beautiful drive, but from our viewpoint it looked like this:

After a good 5 hours of rain, we entered Tennessee, which really was beautiful, and finally arrived in Memphis after 7 hours on the road. We checked into our La Quinta (they take dogs!) in a hurry, so that we could have enough time to make it to Graceland!!

We didnt know what to expect but had a fantastic time at Graceland. It turned out to be Elvis Week so there was music playing and lots of people visiting. We loved the house, cars, airplanes- even stopped at the cafe and shared a grilled peanut butter & banana sandwich (Elvis's favorite)! :)

We took a ridiculous amount of pictures (shocking)- here were some of our favorites:

Our best Elvis impersonations (i look like i'm doing the Elaine!)

My favorite rooms were the living room (so chic) & the pool room, which had completely fabric ceiling & walls!

Sie in front of just one of the HUNDREDS of white jumpsuits!

our favorite die-hard Elvis fan- tattoos are for life, this chic was hardcore!!

Sie's favorite car- this thing was a BEAST!!

The famous pink cadillac.

Here's a link to the rest of our Graceland adventure if you're at work and would like to kill some time (HA!) just kidding. ;) http://triptograceland.shutterfly.com/

Our next blog (Road Trip Part 2) & will include video of our arrival, pics of our NEW HOME (which many of you have asked for!), pics of our neighborhood & of course- tales of how our furniture is STILL NOT HERE... SO STAY TUNED :)
